Day 1 West Coast/Guangzhou
Depart this evening via China Southern Airlines.
Day 2 En route
Day 3 Guangzhou/Chengdu (D)
Arrive Guangzhou early this morning and connect to Chengdu. Upon your arrival in Chengdu -- known as the "Land of Fish and Rice" -- you will be met by the local guide and transferred to the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza (or similar).
Day 4 Chengdu/Jiuzhaigou (AB, L, D)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Jiuzhaigou, "valley of nine villages," which takes its name from the nine Tibetan villages scattered in the valley. Upon arrival you are met and transferred to the Sheraton (or similar).
Day 5 Jiuzhaigou (AB, L, D)
Jiuzhaigou, a National Park and UNESCO World Heritage site, is often called a fairyland by the Chinese because of its pristine, otherworldly beauty. Spend the entire day exploring the scenic forests, luminous pools, lakes and waterfalls of the park.
Day 6 Jiuzhaigou/Huanglong/Maoxian (AB, L, D)
Drive 2-1/2 hours to Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) Scenic Area with its multi-colored limestone ponds and waterfalls, also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore Huanglong for half a day then continue to Maoxian and check into Maoxian International Hotel (or similar).
Day 7 Maoxian/Wolong (B, L, D)
Drive to Wolong Nature Reserve, where scientists have established a successful breeding program for the Giant Panda. Walk the trails and observe the pandas in their natural habitat. The Reserve is also home to several Lesser Pandas (also known as Red Pandas). Overnight at Panda Inn (or similar).
Day 8 Wolong/Chengdu (B, L, D)
You'll have some time to continue your exploration of Wolong Nature Reserve before departing to Dujiangyan, site of one of the engineering wonders of the world, an ancient irrigation system still in use today. Return to Chengdu in the afternoon and check into the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza (or similar). In the afternoon visit the thatched cottage of Du Fu, a celebrated Tang Dynasty poet.
Day 9 Chengdu (AB, L, SD)
Full day sightseeing in Chengdu, including Wangjiang Bamboo Park, with over 150 varieties of bamboo from China. Japan and Southeast Asia. You'll also visit People's Park, a silk brocade workshop, a traditional teahouse, and the birds and flowers market. This evening enjoy a dinner of Sichuan Snacks, and enjoy a performance of traditional Sichuan style opera.
Day 10 Chengdu / USA (AB)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the USA.
