Day 1 West Coast Departure
Check in this evening for your late night flight aboard
Day 2 En route
Depart either just before or just after midnight, depending on the time of year.
Day 3 Bangkok (SD)
Arrival Hong Kong where you will connect with your flight to Bangkok. Upon arrival in the "City of Angels" meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. This evening enjoy an introduction to Thai culture with a special dinner and cultural performance. You'll be delighted by the tasty Thai cuisine and enchanted by the graceful dancers in their glittering costumes.
Day 4 Bangkok (AB)
In the morning explore the canals of Thonburi (the old part of the city) via longboat. A stop will be made at Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn) and the Royal Barges Museum, where the ceremonial riverboats used by the Royal Family are kept. This afternoon visit the Grand Palace, one of the most dazzling examples of Thai architecture in Bangkok, and Wat Phra Keo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), home to the most sacred Buddha image in Thailand.
Day 5 Bangkok/Ayuthaya/Bangkok (AB,L)
Full day excursion to Ayuthaya, UNESCO world heritage site and the former capital of Siam. You'll travel one way via riverboat on the Chao Phraya River, also known as River of Kings. After lunch you'll visit the ruins of this once glorious capital. Along the way you'll also visit Bang Pa In, the Summer Palace.
Day 6 Bangkok/Chiang Mai (AB,SD)
Transfer to the airport for your morning flight to Chiang Mai. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon you will enjoy a city tour with visits to the most interesting temples. This evening a special dinner featuring Northern Thai traditional folk dances and cuisine has been arranged.
Day 7 Chiang Mai/Lisu Lodge (AB,L,D)
Drive up to the mountain temple of Wat Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai's most famous landmark. Next stop is the Hill-tribe Museum, where you'll learn about the various ethnic minorities who live in Thailand. Continue to Sai Nam Pung Orchid Farm in Mae Rim to appreciate the beauty of Thailand's tropical blooms. Proceed to Lisu Lodge for lunch, after which you'll be guided by the villagers on a walk starting from Ton Lung temple to the herb garden. Visit with several Lisu families, then stop for tea in the village shaman's house, where you'll get an introduction to traditional medicine. Return to the Lodge to enjoy traditional village activities such as embroidery and organic gardening. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Day 8 Lisu Lodge/Golden Triangle (B,L)
After breakfast at the Lodge, depart for Chiang Dao Elephant Camp, where you'll experience elephant riding and bamboo rafting. Continue to Tha Ton for lunch at a local restaurant, then drive up to Doi Mae Salong to visit Akha, Chinese Kuomintang and Yao hill tribe villages. From here you'll drive to the Golden Triangle via Mae Chan. Arrive and check into your hotel.
Day 9 Golden Triangle/Bangkok (B,L)
After breakfast visit the Golden Triangle and Opium House, then take a boat ride on the mighty Mekong River. It is the longest river in Southeast Asia and forms the border between Thailand and Laos. Afterwards you'll drive to the border town of Mae Sai for lunch and to explore the local market. From Mae Sai you'll proceed to Doi Tung Royal Project where you'll visit the Palace and the garden. Continue driving to Chiang Rai airport and fly to Bangkok. Upon arrival in Bangkok you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 10 Bangkok/West Coast (AB)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the USA.
