Day 1 West Coast Departure
Check in this evening for your late night flight aboard
Day 2 En route
Depart either just before or just after midnight, depending on the time of year.
Day 3 Ho Chi Minh City
Arrive Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by most people. Upon arrival this morning you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of Ho Chi Minh City, including visits to Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, the Palace of the Jade Emperor and Ben Thanh Market.
Day 4 Ho Chi Minh City (AB, SD)
Visit Cu Chi, where you will visit the 125 miles underground system of tunnels built by the North Vietnamese army during the Vietnam War. Continue to Tay Ninh, where you will see the church of the Cao Dai sect, one of the most colorful and interesting religions in the world. This evening enjoy a special dinner at the Blue Ginger Restaurant.
Day 5 Ho Chi Minh City (AB,L)
Full day excursion to My Tho in the Mekong Delta, an area of endless rice paddies and mangrove swamps, old Khmeer temples and beautiful beaches. Enjoy a boat trip on the Mekong River and visit the sanctuary of Vinh Trang Pagoda, the orchards and palm fringed shores of Dragon Island, and Phoenix Island, where the Coconut Monk once lived.
Day 6 Ho Chi Minh City/Hue (AB)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Hue, imperial city of the 19th century. Upon arrive you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a romantic boat ride on the Perfume River including visits to Thien Mu Pagoda and the Tomb of Emperor Minh Mang.
Day 7 Hue (AB)
Full day sightseeing tour of the Imperial city of the Nguyen Emperors, including visits to the Citadel, Thai Hua Palace, the Forbidden Purple City, Tu Duc Tomb and Khai Dinh.
Day 8 Hue/Hoi An (AB, L)
Drive via the scenic Pass of the Ocean Clouds to Hoi An, then embark on a sightseeing tour by circle through this charming city. Hoi An was not bombed during the Vietnam War, and has the most well preserved buildings of any city in Vietnam. Your visits will include Quan Cong Temple, Phuoc Kien Pagoda, the Japanese Covered Bridge, the Tran Family Chapel and Phung Hung House.
Day 9 Hoi An/Hanoi/Halong Bay (AB)
Transfer to the Danang airport for your flight to Hanoi, where you will be met at the airport and transferred overland to Halong Bay. One of the most impressive landscapes on earth, Halong Bay has thousands of small islands and limestone cliffs full of caves and caverns. Check into your hotel.
Day 10 Halong Bay/Hanoi (AB, L)
Enjoy a 4 hour boat trip through the emerald green waters of the bay, designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Lunch will be onboard. During your cruise you'll stop to explore one of the many islands. In the afternoon transfer back to Hanoi and check into your hotel.
Day 11 Hanoi (AB, D)
Full day sightseeing in Hanoi, including visits to Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Pagoda, the downtown area with its French colonial architecture, the Historical Museum, the Opera House , One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature (Vietnam's first University, founded in 1076) and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. This evening enjoy dinner and a traditional Water Puppet Performance.
Day 12 Siem Reap
Arrive Siem Reap, home to the extraordinarily beautiful Angkor temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Meet your tour guide and driver and transfer to the hotel, then begin your exploration with visits to Angkor Wat and Preah Khan. Watch the sunset from the ruins of Phnom Bakheng temple, on a hill overlooking Angkor Wat.
Day 13 Siem Reap (AB)
Today you'll continue your sightseeing with visits to Angkor Thom, The Bayon, Prasat Kravan, Banteay Kdei, Sras Srang, Ta Keo, Ta Prohm, Thommanon Temple and Chau Say Tevoda.
Day 14 Siem Reap (AB)
Drive to Banteay Srei, constructed of pink sandstone and renowned for the intricacy of its bas reliefs. Visit the Artisans d'Angkor vocational center, where apprentices train in various arts such as stone sculpture and woodcarving.
Day 15 Siem Reap/West Coast (AB)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the West Coast. Arrive back home the same say.
